Tile & natural stone

Texture, pattern and a little permanence.

From a welcoming entry to a quietly detailed kitchen, tile and stone change the character of a room. We bring the material, layout and preparation into the same conversation.

The right approach

Different surfaces. Different considerations.

A good choice is about more than the color of the tile. The application and the complete installation system matter.

01

Ceramic & porcelain

A wide range of sizes, textures and patterns makes tile useful for many floors and walls. We help connect the selection to the way the space is used.

Worth knowing

Not every tile is suitable for a floor or a wet area. Slip characteristics, edge finish and the intended application need checking.

02

Natural stone

Individual veining, texture and variation can make a floor feel distinctive. The material is part of the room's character, rather than a perfectly repeated print.

Worth knowing

Stone types vary in porosity and sensitivity. Sealing, compatible cleaners and the likelihood of patina should be understood before choosing.

Backsplashes & details

A backsplash, edge or threshold can bring a room together without replacing every surface. We plan the visible pattern and the less-visible terminations.

Worth knowing

Outlets, corners, trim, adjoining materials and wall conditions affect the scope. Electrical or plumbing changes require separate coordination.

Small details, lasting effect

The pattern is only part of the picture.

Tile size, grout joints, cuts and where a pattern begins all influence the finished view. We plan the layout around the room, including focal points and places where a small cut would feel awkward.

We also assess the supporting surface. Movement accommodation, bonding and any required water-management assembly are determined for the application. Tile and grout alone do not make an assembly waterproof.

Shower, exterior, pool and specialist waterproofing work require an explicit assessment and agreed scope. They are not assumed to be included.

Before work begins

A considered tile installation.

Cost depends on preparation, material, tile size, pattern, cuts and edge details. The proposal should explain the work around the tile as well as its area.

01

Surface & system

Existing coverings, flatness, substrate stability and the intended use determine preparation. We specify the relevant setting, grout, movement and water-management approach for the agreed application.

02

Size, pattern & cuts

Large formats, diagonals, patterned layouts, borders and small mosaics demand different preparation and fitting time. Natural variation is considered when arranging pieces, with sample layout discussion where useful.

03

Grout, trim & transitions

Joint width, grout color, exposed edges and adjacent floor heights affect both appearance and use. These details belong in the plan before fitting begins.

04

Care after installation

Cure periods, cleaning and any stone-sealing requirements follow the products used. We explain when the area can be used and what care is appropriate, without assuming all stone or grout behaves alike.

A little more clarity

A few useful answers.

Is porcelain always better than ceramic?

The best choice depends on the specific product and application. We look at suitability, surface characteristics, finish, budget and installation requirements rather than choosing by the category name alone.

Can a cracked tile simply be replaced?

Sometimes, if a matching tile is available and the underlying surface is stable. First we assess whether the crack reflects movement or another issue that would affect the replacement.

Will natural stone look exactly like a sample?

No two pieces of natural stone are identical. Samples help communicate a range, but veining, color and texture vary. We discuss that variation and the practical care implications before selection.
